Benefits of Solar Power for Homes

Continually rising petrol and fuel prices throughout the UK, US and worldwide, and the consequentially-soaring household utility costs make solar energy an ever more attractive and viable option for many homes and businesses throughout the world.

Once thought of as a gimmick, advances in solar technology now make it possible for homeowners to become completely self-sufficient, and go ‘off the grid’ rather than remain at the mercy of energy suppliers and their inflated prices.

Although many people are deterred by the initial expense of solar panel installation, these costs are quickly regained as the energy generated thereafter is 100% free. Any additional energy that is generated that exceeds the amount consumed by your property can then be sold back to the National grid, tax free.

A great advantage of owning a solar PV system is that you have the flexibility of either having it function completely independently or have it tied to the grid. In the first instance, you can take advantage of solar power if you live in a remote area and your house has no access to the grid. In the second instance, once you pay off the solar system, you can actually make a profit by selling the excess electricity back to the grid. Also, by remaining tied to the grid, you have the safety of knowing that if your solar system fails to generate sufficient electricity you will still always have power from the grid.

Moreover, you can customize your solar PV system to meet your household’s particular energy needs. A solar installer can come in and help you assess the size of the system that would be best for your home. If you own the system, you can increase the the number of solar panels in case your energy needs go up, and you can also move the system in case you move to a new house. Moreover, installing a solar PV system not only saves you money while you are living in your home, it also actually increases the value of your home, in case you ever decide to sell your property.

With a solar PV system, not only is the energy source free, maintenance costs are very low, with panels only requiring annual cleaning. The solar panels themselves can be installed quickly and easily by a reputable certified supplier such as www.cdelec.co.uk, who will ensure the panels work as efficiently as possible for the clients’ needs. In case you decide you do not want to purchase the panels, and would instead like to rent them, your supplier will be responsible for any maintenance and repairs. This means you can enjoy all the benefits of clean energy completely worry-free.

Solar power is now a constant and consistent source of green energy. This means less pollution is produced directly from the property and indirectly through the transportation of the raw materials and fossil fuels to the site. By installing a solar PV system on your home, you become an active participant in helping save our environment and preserve it for future generations. It turns out that installing one average size residential solar system is equivalent to planting more than 1 acre of trees per year, or driving 10,000 miles less per year!

This is some great information, and I appreciate your point that solar panels don’t require much maintenance. My husband and I have been talking about installing solar power, but we were worried that it would be a lot of work for upkeep. Knowing that they just need an annual cleaning, we’ll definitely look into going through with it. Thanks for the great post!

I like your idea on how solar power is free energy once it is installed. I would imagine that installing solar panels in your home would be really helpful if you live in a sunny area and are looking to go green. I’m trying to be more environmentally conscious so I’ll have to find out if installing solar panels would be right for me.

I didn’t know that solar panels only require cleaning annually. I thought I would have to climb on the roof every month with a bottle of window cleaner. I wonder if there is a special chemical that you can coat them with that helps repel dirt. That would be super useful.
